50th Anniversary of Dr. King’s “Beyond Vietnam” Speech

On April 4, 1967, exactly one year before his death, Dr. King delivered a powerful and controversial speech at Riverside Church in New York, where he denounced the Vietnam War. This action angered President Johnson, who had been an ally, and alienated many of King’s supporters who wanted him to “stick to Civil Rights.” Sadly, the issues addressed in this speech, are just as relevant, if not more relevant to our world today than ever before. To mark the 50th Anniversary of this poignant speech, NCSU will host a reading of Beyond Vietnam in front of the Memorial Belltower on April 4th, 2017 at 11:30am. The event will be hosted by Dr. Jason Miller (author, Origins of the Dream) and will feature a diverse group of community members and activists reading segments of the speech.
